Our Valentine’s Day party for our most recent mix, The Mouth is For to Fuck, was met with wind and freezing temperatures, but we still managed to warm hearts with our eclectic array of love songs and lots of hugs. Here are some pictures from the night — thanks to all who came out, and especially to Amelia, whose tidy cloths and dirty Valentine booth were a huge hit.

The pictures from our yearly bad sweater party are now online! Thanks a lot to Alison Narro for taking photos, as always. Here’s some of our favorites, and the rest can be seen here or by clicking on any of the pictures below.

Congratulations to Leana and Lee who took 1st and 2nd place at our little soup competition this past weekend. And thank you so much to everyone that came out, and to everyone that made soup. So many delicious soups were there, I wish we could have given everyone a trophy.

There was a tie for 2nd, and as we all know, the only way to solve any tie breaker is with JARTS! They’re illegal!

Zorch and friends also played a couple improv soup sets through the night. Thanks, guys, it sounded great. A handful of more pictures can be seen over at our flickr.

Thank you to everyone that came out to Rio Rita last night to celebrate the release of our first mix CD, Season of The Witch. We hope that everyone that got a copy enjoys it, and if you feel a spirit possessing you while listening – it’s best to just accept it.
We set up an altar to incant all that we could, and offered our sounds up to the gods. Pictures below.

Dia de los Muertos is one of our favorite holidays, and for the second year in a row, we’ve carved a pumpkin depicting some skellington friends. This year we decided on making a skeleton lady (last year was the Duke), as inspired by a mural put up on 5th street downtown for the Dia de los Muertos festivites a few days ago. Sadly, I didn’t have our camera on hand, but the lovely Angeliska got a couple of beautiful shots:

These beautiful ladies made me want to make one of my own, and below are the results. A little rough, but this is only my second (!) pumpkin carving ever – with the help of Dave of course. We also found this wonderful Santisimia Muerta (The Holy Dead) candle that seemed all too fitting for the festivities. You can view the whole set on flickr here.

Zorch is a recently transplanted two-piece band that has quickly shot up to the top of Recspec’s favourites – their sound is a mix of freak out rock, psychdeleic electronic arpeggios, tribal music to be circumsized by, and the fruits of two very talented musicians. We work with them for their design and video projections and are very glad that they are in Austin now. You can download their album at their website (designed by Recspec!), or listen now over at their myspace.
Recently they had a house party with some other Recspec favorites: Woodgrain, Butcher Bear, and FM Campers. Here are some pictures that we took on the night. Thanks for having us, Zorch!

Had the pleasure of seeing The Gaslamp Killer DJ again while he was in town this past Thursday, and he was phenomenal and had the entire place packed with very very happy people. Here’s a couple pictures we snapped from the night, and if he comes to your town – make sure its a show that you do not miss. More photos here.

Had the pleasure of seeing the Joy Division Cover Band at the Chain Drive on Wednesday – who are now one of my favourite bands in Austin.
A handful of photos from the show can be seen here.
